NLP University was established in 1991 as a new kind of structure for providing a complete NLP education. For more than a decade, NLPU has continued this commitment to offering the deepest and broadest education in NLP possible. The vision of NLP University has been to create a context in which professionals of different backgrounds can develop fundamental and advanced NLP skills for applications relevant to their professions. The mission of NLP University is to provide the organizational structure through which the necessary curriculum, training, learning tools and support can be brought to people who are interested in internalizing and applying NLP skills to their fullest. NLPU has amassed a body of comprehensive learning materials in different media; including seminar manuals, audio recordings, books (such as the Encyclopedia of Systemic NLP) computer applications and interactive multimedia CDs for Practitioner and Master Practitioner training. In keeping with its history of using leading edge technologies to enhance the learning experience of serious students of NLP, NLP University is introducing a new distance learning pathway.

In recent years there has been a growing interest and demand for NLP training through the convenience of distance learning. Distance learning methods allow students to:
. work at their own pace (as much or little as they want or are ready for).
. repeat key lessons and information as many times as they need to in order to get full comprehension.
. learn in their own environment; home or office; alone or with others.
. save time (no loss of income producing opportunities).

Recent developments in information science, such as interactive multimedia systems and the Internet, have been able to greatly facilitate the process of teaching, learning and applying NLP. These tools can be used to supplement and enhance NLP applications in the areas of education, management and creativity. The Internet, for example, has opened the doorway to global networking and communication between NLP practitioners and students around the world. Interactive multimedia can be used to teach many NLP skills, lead people through NLP techniques, and "install" effective strategies.

NLPU has created a new distance learning package, incorporating the many advantages of multimedia and Internet technologies. Multimedia involves the use of multiple forms of communication media (i.e., video, audio, text, graphics, computer simulations, etc.) to convey ideas and teach skills. Originally used as a specialized educational tool for certain topics, multimedia has become an increasingly popular means to present and communicate all types of information and knowledge. Due to advances in technology (such as optical CD's and video-computer interfaces), multimedia has become a viable tool for helping to develop sophisticated behavioral competence by presenting key knowledge and principles through a variety of media (text, audio, video, pictorial, etc.). These New Multi-media CD's are compatible with most computers.

Multimedia Applies Multiple Representational Channels to Convey Ideas and Teach Skills

From the NLP perspective, the power of multimedia is that it can appeal to many different sensory representational systems. Interactive multimedia allows users to choose the media which most appeals to their learning style and move at their own rate of speed. It also helps people to develop familiarity and competence with other representational channels and learning modalities. When combined with interactive video, multimedia can also teach important perceptual position shifts-through changes in camera angles and the type of interactivity-allowing learners to be in the perspective of observer, guide or explorer.

Robert Dilts and Judith DeLozier, with the technical support of Ryan DeLuz, have harnessed the advantages of multimedia in their new Practitioner and Master Practitioner NLP training CDs. Each CD provides a series of readings, assessment activities, video demonstrations and a variety of interactive exercises organized into 15 days of materials which comprehensively cover the core skills of NLP Practitioner and Master Practitioner training. These CDs are designed to cover a variety of skills and abilities useful in achieving behavioral competency, including:

1. Conceptual skill-to conceptualize the whole and relate or fit something into that larger framework.

2. Analytical skill-to break something into its component pieces; to categorize its elements.

3. Observational skill-the ability to gather relevant information in "real time."

4. Procedural skill-to recall and follow a sequential set of steps that lead to an objective.

5. Interactive skill-to systematically elicit & react to the ongoing behavioral responses of others.

6. Relational skill-to recognize & select appropriate behavior in relation to role, culture, context, etc.

These key competencies are developed through a series of interactive learning activities:

These NLPU CDs form the basis of an innovative distance learning package, which are supported by other adjunct materials including: manuals, audio recordings of past seminars, text books and other reference materials. Each participant in the distance learning path will receive four hours of coaching and tutoring support, through telephone or Internet, the Dilts/NLPU on-line trainer team, led by Judith DeLozier and Suzi Smith.

Participants are encouraged to behaviorally practice what they are learning in two ways:
(1) with other students involved in the distance learning program, through the Internet, discussion forums, etc., and (2) by sharing and practicing what they are learning with friends and colleagues. The distance learning path culminates in a 10-day integration session, on-site at NLP University in Santa Cruz, July 16-26, 2003 this year.

This path has been designed for coaches and consultants who want to save time and money, and for people who have difficulty taking the time away from their personal and professional commitments. By providing expert coaching, supervision and consulting, NLPU hopes to support many new students to learn NLP Practitioner and Master Practitioner skills with NLPU materials and the new specially designed multi-media computer CDs for home and office use. ~ Robert and Judith

Participants receive approximately 4 hours of Judy or Suzi's -Time- focused on supporting your learning process and progress: including individual time- goal setting, scheduling, consulting, communicating about how it's going; and group time on-line with discussions, questions and answers of interest to the whole on-line learning group. The telephone and the internet will play important roles; Judy and Suzi will be here in person when you arrive at NLPU for your final training and assessment.
